About Me

I was born in Chicago, Illinois but moved to Dallas when I was only 11 months, so I definitely consider myself a Dallas girl.  I graduated from Tyler Street Christian Academy in Oak Cliff, Texas and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders.  I received my elementary teachers certification from Texas A&M Commerce.

After graduating from Texas Tech, I became an elementary music teacher for DISD.  During this time, I also toured with Gospel Artist, Kirk Franklin, as well as sang back-up vocals for Yolanda Adams, Michael Buble’, Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, John P. Kee, Richard Smallwood, Alvin Slaughter, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, and Crystal Lewis.  While traveling with Kirk Franklin, I made television appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Soul Train, and The Stellar Awards.  I was a featured vocalist for Granbury Live, a theater in Granbury, Texas that featured nostalgia concerts from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s.

I have been happily married to Roosevelt Nivens for 16 years and we have two middle school aged children, Naomi and Roosevelt III.  I am the Worship Leader and the Contemporary Choir Director for Cornerstone, the contemporary service at Highland Park United Methodist Church. I have worshiped with Cornerstone for the past 12 years.  Roosevelt and I are extremely passionate about volunteering in the community.  My family founded a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called Love Ministries.  For over 20 years, Love Ministries has used private funding in an effort to build, mentor, and educate at-risk children and teenagers.  Love Ministries’ mission is to build young leaders with integrity.

My favorite verse is Matthew 5:13-16.  As I music minister, I pray people will feel the power of the Holy Spirit.  My goal is to glorify God and introduce people to a loving, generous God who wants to be EVERYTHING to them!
